Arrow is proudly sponsoring the second season of The Straight & Marrow, a fabulous podcast that discusses all things allogeneic bone marrow transplant from pre-transplant considerations to survivorship using experiences of health care providers, patients & carers with current evidence to keep it straight.

When GvHD Nurse Consultant Alexandra Rivalland and BMT Nurse Practitioner Yvonne Panek-Hudson found COVID restrictions limited their ability to interact directly with bone marrow transplant patients and their families, they decided they needed to find another avenue of communication. And so, The Straight & Marrow podcast series was born. It proved to be the perfect solution, delivering important information to patients, and available anywhere, any time.

The first season of the podcast was more successful than imagined: they now have roughly 7000 downloads of their podcast!

When Arrow learned that The Straight & Marrow team had achieved so much, running on borrowed equipment and editing favours from friends, we were keen to support this team of wonderfully dedicated haematology nurses and saw the potential for the podcast to expand it’s reach of serving bone marrow transplant patients and their families not just in Victoria (where the show is based) but throughout the country or even globally. With that end in mind, we have sponsored the second season, providing brand new recording equipment for the team as well as covering the cost of editing the episodes ready for publication.

You might think a podcast about bone marrow transplants would be dull. Far from it! This podcast is full of life. It celebrates patient stories, but doesn’t shy away from difficult or tricky topics that others may not want to discuss  —  season two opens with a frank discussion about sex and intimacy post transplant. It’s the place to be for hearing a broad range of perspectives on what an allogeneic bone marrow transplant involves.
