Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation and HSANZ PhD Scholarship

We are pleased to announce our new partnership and PhD scholarship program in collaboration with the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ).
HSANZ is a collaborative network of haematology members with a vision to transform the lives of all people with blood disorders. Arrow is also committed to improving the quality of life for people with blood disorders, particularly those needing a bone marrow transplant, and has a long history of investing in medical research to improve transplant outcomes.
Applications are now open
Our two organisations have come together to provide a three-year PhD scholarship with stipend, and applications are now open for 2023. The scholarship will be awarded to a PhD Candidate whose research focuses on improving outcomes of blood and marrow transplantation for patients by making the procedure safer, reducing the risk of relapse after transplant, and proactively managing long-term health issues and side effects from transplant. This includes research in the following focus areas:
- Allogeneic transplants
- Graft-versus-host disease
- Alternative donor approaches
- Prevention of infectious complications
- Management of long-term issues
- Disease recurrence
The research work must also align with the purpose and objectives of the HSANZ.
What does the scholarship provide?
The scholarship will supply the successful candidate up to $150,000 of funding, including an annual stipend of $48,000 over the course of their candidature (for up to three years of full time study).
Who can apply?
Applications are open to Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Applications for the 2024 scholarship are open now, and close on 20th August 2023.
