At the heart of Liverpool Catholic Club is community. The club itself boasts a range of amenities all designed to bring people together: to eat, be entertained, skate, get fit, host functions and parties, keep the kids entertained… In short, the club exists to serve the community around it.

Part of that local community is Liverpool Hospital, which provides care to bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients in its busy and growing haematology ward.

For more than ten years, Liverpool Catholic Club has been an incredible supporter of Arrow, reflecting a shared commitment to compassion, community and care. The partnership began with a personal connection and support from one of the Directors of the Club, and has grown into a long-standing and deeply valued relationship between our two organisations.

Liverpool Catholic Club’s initial support helped fund the establishment of a new dedicated stem cell transplant ward at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. This ward allowed for state-of-the-art care for patients, including providing positive air pressure isolation wards to help guard against post-transplant infections, and improved facilities that allowed staff to be more efficient in their work.

Since then, Liverpool Catholic Club has continued its generous support of Arrow through providing $305,000 over a period of six years towards medical research projects conducted through St Vincent’s Hospital. These were projects such as genome sequencing to identify biomarkers in stem cell transplant patients conducted by Prof. David Ma and his team at St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research, which has helped make advances in improving outcomes for bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients not just at St Vincent’s Hospital, but around the world through the development of new diagnostic tests and treatment strategies.

In 2024, their support of research projects designed to improve outcomes for bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients deepened by providing $50,000 for Cathy Pendergrast’s research into children living with lung dysfunction caused by post-transplant graft v. host disease, marking the first Liverpool Catholic Club PhD Scholarship Award.

Gregory Richardson, President of the Liverpool Catholic Club, said “Liverpool Catholic Club is very pleased to be able to support the important projects that Arrow is undertaking. We believe they are making a direct and measurable difference to the people in our community in the research to deliver improvements in their treatment.”

In recent years, their generosity has expanded even further than medical research. Recognising the immediate and practical needs of transplant patients and the increasing need for financial support, the Club has extended its support to include Arrow’s Patient Support Program, too, donating a further $231,000 to that arm of Arrow’s work over the past three years, with a particular emphasis on supporting the growing number of stem cell transplant patients in the Liverpool area.

Then in 2024, Liverpool Catholic Club also became a sponsor of our Paint the Town Red fundraising campaign, helping us launch a new initiative to raise awareness and funds through community-led, red-themed fundraising events. Their support not only helped kick-start the campaign but inspired others to get involved and make a difference in a fun and meaningful way.

Arrow CEO Richelle Koller said: “Liverpool Catholic Club’s generosity over the past decade has touched every part of our work, from research to direct patient care. Their impact is real, long-lasting, and deeply appreciated by everyone at Arrow and the patients we serve.”

We are proud to partner with the Liverpool Catholic Club and extend our heartfelt thanks for their support, compassion, and belief in our mission.
