Thanks to the Shaun Rosen Scholarship invaluable global learning opportunities have been provided to Australian Nurses caring for bone marrow transplant patients.

Annabel Horne, Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinator at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, was given the opportunity to meet transplant experts from around the globe while advancing her understanding of hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapies at the European Bone Marrow Transplant conference held in Spain from 6-8 September 2019.

The trip was made possible by funds from the Shaun Rosen Scholarship which was established with a $25,000 donation from Shaun Rosen in 2016.

Annabel said the conference provided her with “Some great insights on various topics including HLA matching, treatments for myeloma, management of GvHD and CAR T cell therapy. An interesting and informative meeting in a beautiful city”.

Nearby in Switzerland, Clinical Nurse Specialist Jacqueline Nipperess, and colleague Nabin Karki Bone Marrow Transplant Quality Coordinator, from St Vincent’s Hospital, were also furthering their knowledge abroad.

Jacqueline and Nabin both received a Shaun Rosen Nurse’s Education and Training Scholarship to attend the Haematology Nurses and Healthcare Professionals Group (HNHCP) Educational Conference in Zurich, Switzerland in February 2019.

The conference was nursing specific, offering a range of educational programs aimed at developing nurse’s skills and knowledge in managing some of the common, but very challenging, issues such as informed patient consent, haemophilia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, neutropenic sepsis, tumour-lysis syndrome, patient transfer of care in ICU and central venous access devices.
