Congratulations to nursing scholarship recipient Abby Fyfe!

We are thrilled to announce that Arrow Nursing Scholarship recipient Abby Fyfe recently completed her Master of Cancer and Haematology Nursing through the University of Sydney with a distinction average. Well done, Abby!
Abby, who was awarded the Arrow Trace Richey Nursing Scholarship in 2020, works as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Consultant at Macquarie University Hospital where her role includes helping bone marrow transplant patients navigate the complex medical health system and educating them on the transplant process.
“This master’s degree has helped to widen my skill set and knowledge to further enhance the care of my patients,” Abby says.
Since completing her degree, Abby has also helped other nurses improve their oncology and post bone marrow transplant patient care through arranging an international webinar and helping with the organisation of a conference on survivorship after cancer. Abby says she is now a much more highly skilled carer for her patients, with improved patient assessment and critical analysis skills.
Abby is thankful that she received this scholarship opportunity from Arrow as without it she is not sure she would have been able to complete the degree. Abby knew she had two of the ingredients to success – the passion to study and selection of the right degree to put her on the right path – but wasn’t sure she had the financial means. “I really didn’t want finances to get in the way of my personal ambition to improve my skills and knowledge.” Thankfully, Abby’s scholarship removed this financial hurdle enabling her to complete her studies.
Abby now celebrates her 20th year of nursing and is grateful she made this “fantastic and life changing decision” to complete her master’s which she is confident will set her up for the next 20 years or more of nursing.
