Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing

The Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Nursing Scholarship

The Australian College of Nursing Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing provides nurses with the knowledge and skills required to coordinate safe, evidence-based cancer care. The course aims to enhance students professional and ethical understanding in order to facilitate clinical practice development and improve patient outcomes.

The course provides nurses with the opportunity to obtain formal qualifications in cancer care learnt through distance education. Nurses are able to tailor the course to further explore specific clinical areas of interest related to cancer nursing including haematology nursing and cellular therapies.

The Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Nursing Scholarship encourages the interest and specialisation into haematology nursing by funding one or more of the following specific modules related to the Graduate Certificate of Cancer Nursing course:

  • Principles of Cancer Care
  • Foundations of Haematology Nursing
  • Cellular Therapies

We give thanks to:

black and white image of Professor Geoffrey Driscoll OAMThe Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Nursing Scholarship was developed by Geoff’s wife Mrs Jan Driscoll and her family following the passing of Geoff.  Geoff was first diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006, and following radiotherapy and chemotherapy, was in and out of remission for his remaining years. Sadly, in May 2016, he developed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Following months of gruelling chemotherapy and an unsuccessful stem cell transplant, Geoff succumbed to the disease in October 2016.

His family wanted to mark this very special man’s life by establishing a scholarship. The Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Scholarship for Haematology and Related Nursing is their way of saying thank you to all those specialist, caring nurses and to encourage more to take up the study of haematology and related blood disorders, so they too can continue to make an incredible impact on other patients’ medical journeys.
