Myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, is the most common reason for people needing an autologous bone marrow transplant, so we were pleased to receive an application for the Arrow Shaun Rosen Award from Haematology Cancer Care Coordinator / Clinical Nurse Specialist Babita (Bobby) Khanal from St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney to attend the International Myeloma Society’s 20th Annual meeting in Greece this September.

Myeloma is the second most common blood cancer in the world, and still has no cure, but with evolving treatment options patients are living longer and maintaining a good quality of life. As a haematology nurse with over 16 years experience, Bobby uses her clinical knowledge and expertise to bring hope to people living with cancer. Attending the International Myeloma Society meeting will afford Bobby an opportunity to grow and develop as a nurse, helping her to provide up to date and evidence-based care for bone marrow transplant patients and their families.

Bobby is also looking forward to meeting with her international colleagues, strengthening ties between Australian nurses and the broader nursing community, as well as being able to share her new knowledge with her co-workers when she returns to St Vincent’s.

The Arrow Shaun Rosen Scholarship will help cover some of Bobby’s travel costs to attend the conference. We look forward to hearing from Bobby on her return!
