Scholarships for nurses: the Professor Geoffrey Driscoll nursing scholarship goes to Townsville!
Each year Arrow offers scholarships for nurses to further their education in the field of bone marrow transplant patient care. We are thrilled to announce the latest recipient of the Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Nursing Scholarship: Lauren Buckland from Townsville Hospital.
As a young nurse, Lauren thought she would never work in the field of Oncology Nursing. “Cancer can be a topic that not many people want to talk about and admittedly, I was one of them,” Lauren says. But the moment she started her placement as a student nurse in an Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, she knew she had found her passion.
“I fell in love with the nursing practice, and the challenges that it brought, as well as the incredible patients and their families.”
Lauren has shown great interest in furthering her education, skills and own learning by actively engaging in further education and weekly in-service education sessions. And she’s showing no sign of stopping, enrolling in the Graduate Certificate of Cancer Care.
“I want to be able to make an impact in the field and provide quality nursing care to patients with haematological malignancies and disorders and their families,” Lauren says. “I look forward to commencing my studies. Being supported by Arrow and the Professor Geoffrey Driscoll Nursing Scholarship only makes me more eager to achieve my goals and see where a future in haematology nursing takes me.”
We wish Lauren the best for her studies, commencing in early 2023.
